To help mark the peninsula-wide Arthur Ransome celebration the Bristol Armshosted a party for children aged eight to 12.
it was a free event with around 50 children, enjoying the fun with lashings of ginger beer, soft drinks. Cheese or ham sandwiches, bangers (or cocktail sausages)) pork pies.
Gary Richen explained the link between Arthur Ransome's book 'We Didn't mean to Go To Sea' and HMS Ganges, the pier and it was a fun afternoon.

What a delicious meal we had at the Bristol Arms. This traditional English pub offered us a table with a magnificient sea view, friendly service and wonderful food.We chose from the daily specials and were not disappointed. The prawns were extremely tasty and so fresh that even my daughter loved them although up until then she never wanted to eat prawns! The whitebait was succulent in the homemade batter. My daughter chose cod, chips and peas, which did England proud but the portions were 'unfortunately' so generous that we didn't have any room for a dessert....all the more reason to come back again! Many thanks to Derek Davis from http://www.shotleypeninsulartours.com for showing us around this beautiful area and introducing us to the Bristol Arms. We will be back!

We recently enjoyed a really nice evening meal at the Bristol. Really good choices, sensible prices, and would definitely recommend to friends. Shame there weren't more customers enjoying the excellent food and friendly service.
The evening way exceeded my expectations. I thought the menu was good value for £18.95.
Having so many choices though is quite ambitious and having to deal with a huge group all a once is a big ask. But you asked for feedback which is intended to be constructive: The prawns needed something to mop up the juice and i asked for some bread and this was provided quickly and efficiently. from what i saw go by, The Baked Camembert looked beautiful and the Terrine was good too (Richard had that).
The steak looked beautifully presented. I didnt think Richard's shoulder of lamb 'presented well' on the plate - everything looked very orange.
'Very friendly staff, food was wonderful, would definitely go again.'
Tracy Sams, Shotley.
'Great food at pub with excellent views.'
'This was the best food we have ever had here. Wife's fish was really tasty and steak melted in my mouth.
We have been coming to the Bristol Arms for 25 years, although it went through a bad period so we left it awhile.
So glad we came back to visit Shotley and found pub better than ever.
